Nigel
Mansell's Grand Prix Victories 1985-1992
by Formula One
Constructors Association (1992)
Narrated
by the BBC's famed Murray Walker, and interlaced with
an exclusive interview, this video relives all the moments
of Nigel Mansells F1 magic, from his emotional
first breakthrough win in the 1985 European GP at Brands
Hatch to the Red 5 battles with Piquet at
Williams in 1986-87, the spectacular pursuit of Senna
in 1991 and the dominant 9-win World Championship season
in the 1992 active Williams. A tremendous
compendium of footage of Il Leone at his
best. (90 minutes)

A
Star Named Ayrton Senna
by Ayrton Senna
Foundation Ltd. (1998)
Ayrton
Senna's "official" memoir video is based on
two films covering his life right up until Imola in
May '94, plus subsequent reminiscences and personal
insights from Senna's family, friends, colleagues, rivals,
mentors, teammates and managers. Senna reveals, in his
own words, his meticulous professional approach, his
tactics for achieving mental and physical fitness, and
his thoughts on the risks of racing, religion and the
controversies that marked his record-setting career.
The video includes extensive action footage from many
of Senna's most memorable GP races plus earlier footage
of his karting days. This is without a doubt the best
Senna video ever! (112 minutes)

Grand Prix
by John Frankenheimer
(1966)
Perhaps
the best Formula One movie ever made, Grand Prix features
tremendous photography shot in actual GP races during
the 1965 Formula One season, with cameos from some of
the famous drivers of the era. Starring James Garner
as an almost washed-up US driver forced to take the
second seat for a new Japanese F1 team (a/k/a Honda),
this film is a little trite and very dated but
the Monza banking scenes still cannot be beat! (175
minutes)

voice that has launched a thousand Murrayisms
in Great Britain takes the viewer on an unforgettable

Villeneuve and René Arnoux at the '79 French
Grand Prix to Senna's 1993 opening lap magic in the
rain at Donnington Park. Walker has seen them all, and
this personal memoir is a video ode to the best F1 moments

Ayrton
Senna: Racing Is In My Blood
by Jean-Claude
Guiter (1992)
Produced
before his death, this "official video biography"
of Ayrton Senna gave many Formula One fans including
this reviewer their first glimpse at the real
man behind the fabled yellow helmet. That perspective
is markedly different from the aggressive, focused and
controversial personality of the F1 cockpit. Like him
or not, this video reveals Senna as he truly was. (55
minutes)

Le
Mans
by Lee
H. Katzin (1971)
It
isnt Formula One, but Le Mans is a classic motor
racing movie, with some excellent action scenes from
the Mulsanne Straight before the era of chicanes. Todays
Le Mans also continues to showcase many former F1 drives
each year. And Steve McQueen is, of course, great on
any kind of motorized vehicle. You can wait for Speedvisions
Lost Drive In series to show it, or buy
your a copy for your own video library. (106 minutes)

Formula
Villeneuve: A Tribute to Gilles Villeneuve
by Macadam Films
(1983)
During
his short lifetime, Gilles Villeneuve exuded a particular
type of magic that quickly transformed him into a motor
racing legend. This film, produced by his compatriots,
includes remembrances from the likes of Enzo Ferrari,
Fangio, Moss, Lauda, Prost, Scheckter, Andretti, Tambay,
Lafitte and Canadian ex-Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
Somewhat short on real action footage, this is more
a memoir than a racing video. (56 minutes)
