Lewis Hamilton reclaimed the Formula One World Championship lead with a convincing victory at the French GP. The Mercedes driver led from start to finish other than one lap around his pit stop to move 14 points ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel, who finished 5th, and made life difficult for himself with a collision at the first corner with Hamilton’s teammate Valtteri Bottas.
Dominant. That’s one way to describe Hamilton’s performance at the returning French Grand Prix. The reigning World Champion was in a class of his own in Friday practice, finishing the second session 7/10ths clear of anyone else. In qualifying, he was untouchable in each of the three segments and described the session as “simple.”
Come race day, he cruised to victory and only lost the lead briefly when he pitted for fresh tyres. And this was after he arrived at Paul Ricard having not turned a single lap of the venue on the simulator, unlike many of his rivals
