Vettel Eyes Dream Ferrari Drive

20111013-015343.jpg

It’s hard to believe that the now two-time World Champion would leave Adrian Newey’s Red Bull Racing — although he is reportedly obsessed with driving for the Scuderia — but this rumor indicates the Formula One “silly season” has begun in earnest.

Sebastian Vettel could get the chance to turn his dreams into reality after Ferrari signalled a bid to wrest the new double world champion from Red Bull.Positioning for Formula One’s best jobs has started early and the ramifications will ripple throughout the paddock to the door of McLaren.

Stefano Domenicali is an unashamed admirer of Vettel, who won the second title of his short career on Sunday in Japan, and the latter has often spoken of his desire to race for the sport’s most famous team. The German is scheduled to stay at Red Bull until the end of 2014 but there will be get-out clauses on both sides.

One stumbling block might have been Fernando Alonso, who covets his position as Ferrari’s No. 1 driver, but Domenicali sees no problem. “Would Alonso accept Vettel? I think yes, it could work,” Domenicali, the Ferrari team principal, said. “Fernando’s strength is that he’s afraid of no one.”
