It's been nearly sixty years — since 1955 — that Mercedes secured two consecutive pole positions as a a constructor in Formula One. Nico Rosberg's surprising pole for Mercedes AMG Petronas at Sakhir in Bahrain did the trick.

The running was close in Valencia, but at the flag it was Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel who emerged the fastest, capturing the 33rd pole of his career, tying Alain Prost and the late Jim Clark for 3rd all time.

Defending F1 champion Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) secured his second consecutive pole position at Canada with a blistering qualifying lap of 1:13.784. This is Vettel’s second pole in 2012. He earlier claimed pole at Bahrain, where he went on to win the GP race.

Sebastian Vettel set a new record for pole positions in the 2011 Brazilian GP, taking his Red Bull RB7 round in a superb 1m 11.918s for his 15th pole of the season. The onboard video is brilliant indeed.

Lewis Hamilton took pole position in Yeongam ahead of Sunday's Korean Grand Prix. It is the British driver's first pole since Canada in 2010 and the first time a Red Bull has not occupied the top spot all season.
