Button’s Best?

Podium

Today’s Chinese GP in Shanghai was once again a free-for-all as rain showers came in and out, making tire strategy predominant. Jenson Button smartly guessed right and, with fewer pit stops, edge team mate Louis Hamilton from McLaren.

“For me it is my best victory,” said Button. “Every time that you win I think it becomes your best victory. But this one was very special as it was very tough conditions and the great thing is our pace was good today.”

Was this really Button’s best Grand Prix? Well, I for one think it typifies modern F1, run on turn-and-squirt, antiseptic circuits, devoid of character. There were precious few daring, let alone masterful driving moves and little in the way of head-to-head racing on the track. Granted, the start was exciting, as Alonso thundered from 3rd into the lead. But for me at least a career “best” win needs drama. This race was interesting but totally undramatic.
