Red Bull Racing drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel over the weekend took a small break from the Grand Prix season to celebrate the reopening of the racetrack known previously as the Österreichring and the A1 Ring — now re-named the Red Bull Ring — in Spielberg, Austria, on May 14 and 15. The track was founded as the Österreichring in 1970; it hosted the Austrian Grand Prix for 18 consecutive years. Like many circuits of the time, the track was dangerous, and it claimed the life of American driver Mark Donohue after he strayed in the dangerous Vost-Hugel Kurve in 1975. In 1987, the narrow track needed two restarts to begin the GP race following crashes on the starting grid. F1 then abandoned the A1 circuit until 1997.
