Ricciardo Wins In Canada

Ricciardo—Canada 2014

Daniel Ricciardo became the fourth Australian to win a Grand Prix after he drove to victory at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montréal on Sunday.

Ricciardo exploited power unit problems that hindered Nico Rosberg and his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, who retired with brake failure, taking the lead with just two laps remaining in the race. The GP ended under the Safety Car after a last-lap shunt that took out Felipe Massa’s Williams and Sergio Perez’s Force India.

Told over the team radio that he had won, Ricciardo simply said: “Wow. I’m still in shock. This is ridiculous. It is a bit surreal. It’s not that we were leading the race from start to finish.”
