The 1978 Formula One season was all about the innovative and dominating Lotus 79 ground effects machine, nicknamed the “wing car,” driven by Mario Andretti and teammate Ronnie Peterson. But at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, the final race of the year — and with Peterson having perished in a terrible starting line accident during the Italian GP at MonzaGilles Villeneuve came home to take his first Grand Prix victory in the Ferrari 312T3.
