So Texas billionaire businessman Red McCombs, a founding partner of Circuit of the Americas, paid Bernie Ecclestone his US$25M licensing fee — saying "Mr. Ecclestone received his check today." And the U.S. Grand Prix at Austin is now set for November 2012. Who would'a thunk it?

Professor Sid Watkins, who has been at the forefront of safety in Formula 1 for more than 30 years, has ended his full-time involvement in motorsport. The neurosurgeon has stepped down as president of the FIA Institute, but will continue in an honorary role.
